CDC did not systematically collect national preschool immunization coverage data from 1986-1991. In 1990, CDC conducted retrospective school surveys of 1st and 5th graders in eight urban areas to assess measles immunization status. From 1990-94 CDC recommended that all states conduct retrospective school surveys.(6)
