Thus in conclusion I have proposed that hypertension risk is powerfully related to vessel stiffness. I have suggested that other features of the high risk phenotype suggest a common antecedent characterising the patient with the elevated cardiovascular risk associated with high blood pressure. And finally, I have proposed that the treatment paradox suggests that we do not yet fully understand how elevation of blood pressure increases risk, or reducing it benefits our patients.
