Islamic Thinker Selim El-Awa Guest of the BA Dialogue Forum

The BA Dialogue Forum hosted on Saturday, 20 October 2007, Islamic Thinker Dr. Mohamed Selim El-Awa, in a seminar entitled "The Muslim and the Other". The seminar was chaired by Dr. Fathy Abu Aiana, Professor of Arabic Language, Alexandria University.
Selim Al-Awa started his lecture by defining the Muslim and speaking on the Holy religion of Islam and its obligations. He identified some main points related to the relation between Muslims and the other and the frameworks determined by Al-Shari'a in this respect. He described the Islamic theory in dealing with the other as unprecedented.
He added that the principal role of religions is to differentiate between religion and worldly matters which could change every minute. Al-Awa discussed several other subjects emphasizing the concept of co-existence and that weaknesses of our nation is our weaknesses. Dr. Fathy Abu Aiana commented on the address of eminent thinker Selim El-Awa saying: "it is a talk of akl (brain) and not just nakl (quotations), and this is exactly what we need today, so that the far and the near would know the moderation of Islam".
