10th International Barley Genetics Symposium

The BA Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), in cooperation with the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) are co--organizing the International Barley Genetics Symposium (IBGS) held at the BA from 5 to 10 April 2008.
The International Barley Genetics Symposium (IBGS) is organized every 4 years in different countries of the world. Usually more than 300 barley geneticists, breeders, and researchers from more than 60 countries participate regularly in the IBGS. The Symposium covers a diverse range of applied and basic research on barley.
The First International Barley Genetics Symposium was held in Wageningen, the Netherlands, in 1963. Hundred and six participants of the world’s most famous barley researchers have attended. Since then, the Symposia have been the most important events for barley breeders and scientists, where results and current trends are presented and discussed.
The Symposium has been held five times in Europe (Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), twice in North America (Canada and USA), and once in Asia (Japan) and Australia. The last Symposium was held on 20-26 June 2004 in Brno (Czech Republic) and was attended by about 350 delegates.
