“Alexandrians’ Right to Sight” Festival at the BA

Alexandria— The BA Taha Hussein Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired, in cooperation with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the World Health Organization, and the Governorate of Alexandria, organizes “Alexandrian’s Right to Sight” Festival on Thursday, 24 July 2008, attended by officials and specialists in the field, on top of which General Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria, Dr. Hussein Gazairly, Regional Director of the World Health Organization, and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria.

Dr. Serageldin stated that holding this event at the BA comes within the Library’s cultural role towards Alexandrians, as the Festival aims at raising awareness of Alexandrians’ against eye diseases and educating them about means of protection from blindness.

It is worth mentioning that several field studies by the WHO and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has warned against the increase in the rate of blindness and eye diseases annually.
