Dr. Ismail Serageldin participates in the International Forum of Davos

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, participated in the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Switzerland, 23-26 January 2003. Throughout the forum, and in three different sessions, Dr. Serageldin and eminent personalities, dealt with a number of issues. These issues included the use of art and diplomacy to resolve conflicts and crises between nations and cultures. A number of questions dealt with the extent to which the language-of-art is considered to be global, and the role that art can play to enhance the image of nations, as well as the role it plays to attain peace between nations and serve their interests.
The second session held on 24 January 2003 revolved around the issue of international water, where Dr. Serageldin highlighted the main geographical areas where there was possibility of a water crisis in addition to the solutions that the policymakers can adopt to avoid potential wars over water.
The third session held on 26 January 2003 revolved around the role science plays to serve the global interest, where Dr. Serageldin talked about the scientific themes that can play an effective role in upgrading the standard of living for developing countries, and how the efforts related to general and private research can be maximized to serve these scientific themes.
