Alexandria—The Specialized Advisory Committees will hold their 21st meeting at the BA on 28 February and 1 March 2009. The Committees give impetus to the BA's artistic, cultural, and scientific mission through the participation of its members in formulating the activities and programs of the BA.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, stated that the BA seeks to deeply root its relationship with Egyptian scholars and intellectuals and to benefit from their wisdom and views in developing the collections of the BA through recommending references, publications, and other knowledge mediums for the Library to make available for researchers and visitors. This meeting is held in parallel with the Fourth Arab Youth Forum and the Sixth Arab Reform Conference.
He added that the BA welcomes the participation of the advisory committees in proposing different activities to be held at the BA, provided that it enriches the intellectual and scientific life in Egypt. Dr. Serageldin said that disseminating the mission of the BA and its activities targeting international and local audience, and spreading the awareness on services provided by the BA to researchers and knowledge seekers would not be accomplished without the guidance of distinguished intellectuals on the Egyptian cultural and scientific arena.
It is worth mentioning that the Committees' membership is for one year only to increase the participation of intellectuals and scholars from different fields. The committees meet four times a year at the BA premises.
