Serageldin Meets with Members of the Higher Council for Science and Technology

Alexandria—As member of the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, joined, on Friday, 8 May 2009, the group of non-governmental personalities assigned by Egypt’s Prime Minister to examine critical research topics in the four most pressing issues: agriculture, water, health and energy, and to define priorities for scientific research in Egypt.

The Council discussed all four topics, the objectives, the challenges and the obstacles, and outlined their recommendations for new outlooks of future scientific research. Serageldin put forward expert and valuable recommendations on key issues in food security, agriculture, aquaculture, water and environment.

The HSCT was formed by a presidential decree and has high profile members to contribute to scientific and technological development in Egypt. In addition to Dr. Serageldin, members include Dr. Ahmed Zoweil, Dr. Farouq El-Baz, Dr. Magdi Yaqoub, Dr. Mohamed El-Baradey, and Businessmen Naguib Sawiris and Mohamed El-Mahdy.
