Architectural Education for the New Millennium

In collaboration with the Union of International Architects (UIA) and within the framework of the support that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina provides to the different areas including science, culture and intellect, the library shall host a conference entitled “Architectural Education for the New Millennium” during the coming March.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin; Director General of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina said that this conference is an attempt to resolve the difficulties that architectural education faces recently because businessmen and architectural offices are concerned with the quantity of work achieved, regardless the degree of precision or quality, and with the training of workers to be designers rather than creators or innovators who are able to solve those problems that architects usually face in urban areas.
In response to the difficulties that we face in the mean time including the rapid changes in the surrounding environment and the trials to revitalize the traditional architectural designs in addition to the collapse of modern buildings after a short time, the profession of architecture is facing the threat that it might perish in the near future.
The world architectural students must be trained and educated to be more aware and creative so that they can better face the future challenges.
The conference thus discusses the international architectural forces and how they might affect the regional and local experiences. It also tackles the impact of information technology on the methods of architectural education and the development of modern techniques in this field.
