Agamemnon in a Play Reading at the BA

Alexandria— The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading in English on Wednesday, 10 March 2010. Participants will read Agamemnon by Aeschylus.
Agamemnon is part of The Orestia trilogy tracing the fall of the House of Atreus, and the best representation of tragedy as adopted by Aristotle. The play starts right after the Trojon War with the return of Agamemnon. Planning to celebrate his victory, the King of Argos had no idea that his wife, Clytemnestra, was actually planning his own murder for the sacrifice of their daughter before the war. However, Agamemnon was also killed because of his own hamartia, excessive pride. He entered his palace walking on a red carpet, as such offending the gods, and particularly Zeus. The carpet thus led him into his palace as well as his own death
