The BA Celebrates Poets’ Spring Ceremony 2010
Posted on
The BA Arts Center, in cooperation with the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, organizes the Poets’ Spring 2010 Ceremony, titled “Cavafy... An Immortal Voice from Alexandria”, on Tuesday, 23 March 2010.
Poets’ Spring celebrates all waves of Egyptian contemporary poetry, as well as Alexandrian Greek Poet Cavafy, who lived all his life and died in Alexandria, declining all temptations to leave the city.
A number of celebrated Egyptian poets participate in the Ceremony with poetry readings of Cavafy’s poems, in addition to a number of young Alexandrian poets.
Poets’ Spring is an annual poetry festival in which poets celebrate poetry with the public. It was first celebrated in France, and was soon adopted by UNESCO as a poetry festival celebrated worldwide in all languages. Ancient Greeks also celebrated this event in March, with the onset of Spring. Since Ancient Greeks were first to celebrate Poets’ Spring, it is befitting to celebrate the Alexandrian Greek Poet Cavafy in Alexandria.
