Le Barbier de Séville in a Play Reading at the BA

Posted on

The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading in French on Wednesday, 5 may 2010. Participants will read Le Barbier de Séville (The Barber of Seville) by Caron de Beaumarchais .

Following a traditional commedia dell' arte structure, the play involves a Spanish Count, who has fallen in love at first sight with a girl called Rosine. To ensure that she really loves him and not just his money, the Count disguises himself as a poor college student named Lindor, and attempts to woo her. But Rosine is locked up in her guardian, Doctor Bartholo’s, house who intends to marry her himself. However the Count, by chance meets an ex-servant of his, Figaro, who is currently working as a barber and therefore has access to the Doctor's home. Figaro devises a variety of ways for the Count and Rosine to meet.

The session starts at 16:00 hrs. at the BA Arts and Multimedia Library. Participants should register their names at the General Information Desk at the Library entrance.
