Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, received H.E. Manuela Franco, Ambassador of Portugal to Egypt, and Mr. Medhat Wahdan, Consul General of Portugal, to mark the National Library of Portugal’s donation of a copy of the original Portugaliae Monumenta Cartographica to the BA.
The donation includes six volumes containing the original maps of the Portuguese marine discoveries, from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century AD.
Dr. Zayed was pleased to receive this valuable gift, as he stressed the importance of these volumes, which were published in 1960 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator.
In addition, Ambassador Franco presented a number of publications to the BA, and in turn, Dr. Zayed gifted her a copy of one of the BA publications: The Photographic Memory of Alexandria.
