Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, delivered a seminar entitled "The Religious Field: Its Borders, Discourses, and Contradictions", at the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation in Dubai.
Al Owais Foundation confirmed, in its lecture announcement, that Dr. Ahmed Zayed is one of the most prominent contemporary sociologists, who founded an Egyptian-Arab school of sociology concerned with understanding the modernist project and self-criticism, as he was preoccupied with renewing the religious discourse and examining middle-class issues by presenting a reading of the concept of social capital. Dr. Zayed has also presented dozens of important books, including: Citizenship: National Identity and Social Responsibility (2018), The Strategy to Counter Extremism in Egypt (2017), and The Imam's Voice: Religious Discourse from Context to Reception (2017).
Dr. Ahmed Zayed received a number of prestigious awards, including the State Appreciation Award in Social Sciences in 2007, Cairo University’s Award for Excellence in Social Sciences in 2011, and the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Award in the Field of Humanities and Future Studies (17th round).
