"The Knowledge Society in the Arab and International Sphere” at the BA

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the Consulate General of Lebanon in Alexandria, is organizing the fourth session of the Alexandria Dialogues Forum under the title “The Knowledge Society in the Arab and International Sphere… Its Components and Future Prospects”, on Tuesday, 13 June 2023, at 12:00 pm, in the BA Main Reading Hall.
The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, with the participation of the Lebanese social researcher Prof. Massoud Daher.
Dr. Massoud Daher was born in Cheikh Taba – Akkar, Lebanon, and received a BA in History in 1968 and a Postgraduate Diploma in the same field in 1970 from the Lebanese University. He also received a state doctorate in Social History from the Sorbonne University. He has been teaching at the Lebanese University since 1973. In 1996, he was appointed member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Lebanese University’s Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences. As a visiting professor, he was invited to a number of prestigious universities, and took part in more than three hundred Arab and international conferences.
Daher won the Abdul Hameed Shoman Award for Young Arab Scientists in Jordan in 1983, and the Best Arabic Book Award in the field of humanities from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) in 2000. He was elected member of the Executive Board of the Arab Sociological Association between 1988 and 2001, and served as Assistant Secretary-General for Scientific Research at the Union of Arab Historians. He was seconded as a development expert at the United Nations in 2004 and 2008, and was awarded the Order of the Arab Historian in 1993, followed by the Order of Arab History in 1996 from the Union of Arab Historians.
For his efforts in the dissemination of Japanese culture, Daher was decorated with the Order of the Rising Sun by the Emperor of Japan in 2010, and was selected among the fifteen world historians who were honorary members of the European Society for History Writing in 2011. He was named China-Lebanon Friendship Ambassador from Shandong Province and was selected as a Scientific Committee and Jury Member of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award from 2011 to 2015. Massoud Daher published numerous books that occupy a prominent place in the field of social sciences.
