The BA Library Sector organized the fifth session of the Alexandria Dialogues Forum, under the title "Creative Cities: An Approach towards Sustainable Development".
The session witnessed the presence of Dr. Ali Al-Galaby, Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University; Dr. Adel El-Menshawy, Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport; and Dr. Abdel Hadi Kashyout, Head of the Electronic Materials Research Department at the City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications. The discussion was moderated by Senator Ehab Atallah, co-author of the book Creative Cities and Advanced Models of Knowledge-Based Urban Development.
Senator Ehab Atallah said that Alexandria is one of the first creative cities in the world and that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is the pillar of creativity in Egypt.
Dr. Ali Al-Galaby pointed out that creative cities should be based on several different knowledge circles, and that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is among those circles within the city of Alexandria.
In addition, Dr. Adel El-Menshawi said that the industrial revolution affected creative cities in terms of pollution and crowding, which caused the creation of a kind of stratification related to the acquisition of quiet houses on the outskirts or periphery of cities, which led to the formation of new terms in urbanization such as the term “revitalization of cities”.
For his part, Dr. Abdel Hadi Kashyout stressed that there are 17 sustainable development goals, the most important of which are those related to sustainable cities, clean water, clean energy, and preventing the depletion of resources related to creative cities.
