The Inauguration of the BA International Book Fair

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina inaugurated yesterday the 18th round of its International Book Fair, which runs until 26 July 2023, in collaboration with the General Egyptian Book Organization and the Egyptian and Arab Publishers Association.

The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Ahmed Abdullah Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; the great poet Ahmed Abdel Moaty Hegazy; Dr. Ahmed Bahey El-Din Al-Assassi, President of the General Egyptian Book Organization; and Mr. Said Abdo, President of the Egyptian Publishers Assocoation.

Dr. Zayed and the attendees toured the Book Fair, where they visited the pavilions of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the Muslim Council of Elders and the General Egyptian Book Organization, in addition to the pavilions of Dar Al-Maaref and Dar Al-Ain publishing houses.

This year’s round of the BA International Book Fair includes 70 Egyptian and Arab publishing houses, together with an integrated cultural program held on its sidelines, featuring a wide variety of more than 100 events, ranging from seminars to lectures, workshops, and conferences. The events will focus on topics such as youth, women, children, media, history and heritage, poetry, literature, writing, technology, art, and human development. In addition, the Fair will discuss a number of local and international issues, such as education development, artificial intelligence and its applications, women's issues, and television drama. The cultural program also offers an important set of workshops for teaching hieroglyphics, Arabic calligraphy, creative translation and academic writing, documentary film production, and other creative writing workshops. The Fair will witness the participation of a large and distinguished group of writers, artists, media professionals, poets, and other prominent figures.
