If you are a lover of history and archaeology, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina invites you to dive into the world of archaeology and learn more about the BA Antiquities Museum and its distinctive artifacts that span different eras – from ancient Egypt to the Islamic period, including the Greco-Roman and Coptic civilizations. The Museum, with its permanent and temporary collections, currently houses 1,342 artifacts.
The BA Antiquities Museum is the first archaeological museum to be established inside a library and comprises some of the objects that were found at the Library site during its construction.
The Competition
In this context, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is launching “Find the Monument!” competition, which aims to increase young people’s archaeological and historical awareness, raise their spirit of exploration and enhance their research skills.
The competition starts on Thursday, 17 August 2023, at 11:00 am, and runs until 31 August 2023.
The competition will feature information about 10 distinctive artifacts inside the Museum, and contestants must try to identify the name of each piece by visiting the Antiquities Museum and photographing it, or by consulting the Antiquities Museum website (accessible through the BA website) and checking its photos.
Competition Rules
- Participants must be between 18-40 years old.
- Participants must adhere to the photography rules inside the Museum, which only allow mobile photography (without a flash). Video recordings are not allowed inside the Museum.
- Contestants must create a post on their personal pages, assembling the photos they took at the Antiquities Museum or those they found on the Museum’s website. They must also write the correct name for each artifact, while tagging the BA official social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram) and copying the hashtags: #مسابقة_ابحث_عن_الأثر #مكتبة_الإسكندرية # مسابقة_مكتبة_الإسكندرية
Winners who come up with the correct answers, meet the rules of the competition and achieve the highest number of “likes” will receive a symbolic financial reward.
