The BA Women Studies and Social Transformation Program has released the first issue of Hypatia – the Magazine of Arab Women in Science and Technology. This quarterly magazine (issue no. 1, September 2023) is published in cooperation with the Arab Network of Women in Science and Technology, headed by Dr. Rafia Ghubash.
Hypatia is the first magazine of its kind in the Arab world to highlight the scientific and technological achievements of Arab women, and underline the status of Arab women in the field of science and technology, together with the challenges they face to prove their competence in a field globally characterized by male domination. In addition, the magazine provides readers with significant figures and statistics, in order to better understand the contributions of Arab women to current scientific developments.
The first issue of Hypatia magazine features a foreword by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which outlines the Library's mission to spread scientific and intellectual values. It also explains why the Bibliotheca Alexandrina embraces the Arab Network of Women in Science and Technology, and stresses the Library's constant support for Arab women’s self-fulfillment, as they strive to employ their potential for a better future for the Arab region.
The magazine is available for online viewing on the official website of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in addition to the website of the Women Studies and Social Transformation Program, and the official website of the Arab Network of Women in Science and Technology.
