The Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in cooperation with the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, will hold an exhibition entitled "Selim Hassan: Pioneer of Egyptology", from 18 to 30 September 2023, in the Museum's Lecture Hall.
This exhibition commemorates the sixty-second anniversary of the death of Dr. Selim Hassan, one of the most prominent figures of Egyptology and the founder of the campaign to save Egyptian antiquities in Nubia, who presented numerous pioneering studies in this field, and was nicknamed the "Dean of Egyptian Archaeologists". The event will be inaugurated with a symposium under the same title.
The exhibition highlights Selim Hassan's contributions to the development of Egyptology and his active role with regard to the excavations that were carried out under the auspices of the National Foundation of the Egyptian University (now Cairo University). It also features a collection of manuscripts and photographs showcasing his excavations in Giza and Saqqara, as well as handwritten documents and unpublished photographs of the campaign to discover the ascending path to King Unas in Saqqara, together with a rare collection of photographs he took during his expeditions.
