The BA Center for Islamic Civilization Studies and the Young People's Library organized a symposium and workshops entitled «Embroideries and Arts of Kiswat (Covering) Al-Kaaba», presented by a group of experts in Islamic civilization and antiquities. The events took place on Tuesday, 25 June 2024, in the BACC Small Theater, and on Wednesday, 26 June 2024 at the Young People's Library, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The symposium was delivered by Dr. Radwa Zaki on the history of the construction of the Holy Kaaba over the centuries, followed by a lecture by Dr. Shereen El-Kabbani, which reviewed the history of Dar Al-Kiswa Al-Sharifa in Cairo, and another lecture by Dr. Ibrahim El-Khouly on the embroideries of the Kaaba covering. The lectures were followed by a tour of the Library for participants to view the Kaaba’s Honorable Hodge and its ornamental curtain.

The second day of the events featured two practical workshops on the ornaments of the Kaaba covering and their execution, together with the depiction of the Kaaba covering in folk art. Participants were able to practically weave pieces of the Kaaba covering and draw models of the Kaaba similar to what can be found on the Hajj murals.
