The Opening of the Symposium “The Dissemination and Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights” at the BA

Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Ambassador Mahmoud Karem, President of the National Council for Human Rights, inaugurated this morning the joint symposium “The Dissemination and Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights” at the BA.

The opening session featured speeches by Dr. Sameh Fawzy, Senior Researcher at the BA; Mr. Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat, Member of the National Council for Human Rights and Head of the Civil and Political Rights Committee; and Dr. Magdy Abdel Hamid, Executive Director of the European Project at the Council.

The symposium included two sessions that addressed the relationship between human rights, education, and community culture, featuring a number of prominent academics, human rights activists, and public figures, namely Dr. Yousry El-Gamal, former Minister of Education; Dr. Hany Ibrahim, Secretary General of the National Council for Human Rights; Dr. Elham Abdel Hamid, Professor of Curricula and Teaching Methods at the Faculty of Higher Educational Studies, Cairo University; Prof. Negad El-Borai, Human Rights Activist and Lawyer at the Court of Cassation; Dr. Yousra Shaaban, Professor of Civil Law at Ain Shams University; and Dr. Amany El-Tawil, Director of the African Program at Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies.
