This morning, Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA; Dr. Marwa El-Wakil, Head of the BA Academic Research Sector; and the legal representative of the BA at the National Alliance for Civil Development Work took part in the “Volunteering Month” celebration organized by the Alliance at Cairo University.
The celebration was attended by Ambassador Nabila Makram, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work; Major General Mohsen Al-Noamani, former Minister of Local Development; Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University; Dr. Ahmed Ragab, Vice President of Cairo University; Dr. Ayman Abdel Mawgoud, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity; Ms. Ghada Tawfik, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt for Social Responsibility; board members of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work; a select group of experts and public figures; and a large number of volunteers from different institutions.
Dr. Ahmed Zayed started his speech at the inaugural session by stating that volunteering is not merely a service, but a tool for self-development and character building, which allows individuals to become more open and generous to their communities.
Dr. Marwa El-Wakil signed the “Ethical Code of Volunteering” to be the first framework of its kind among civil society organizations in Egypt. The signing was witnessed by Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Ambassador Nabila Makram, and representatives of different institutions.
During the ceremony, the volunteering experience at the BA across its various sectors and programs was discussed through a segment entitled “Inspiring Youth Experiences,” highlighting the Library's role in developing volunteers' skills and providing them with different experiences as part of its mission to support and build the capacities of young people.
It is worth noting that the “Volunteering Month” ceremony at Cairo University followed the “International Volunteer Day” event organized by the BA in collaboration with the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, on Friday, 5 December 2025, which discussed the impact of volunteering on society and digital transformation in development institutions, in addition to a specialized workshop on the life cycle of volunteers in civil society organizations and another on the code of ethics for volunteering.
