Theater performances and lectures in the 2nd Scientific Conference on Theater

Alexandria, 24 March 2005—On the occasion of the International Theater Day, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, is organizing the 2nd Scientific Conference on Theater, 26-27 March 2005, under the auspices of Professor Mohammed Abdellah, President of Alexandria University.
The conference will be inaugurated by Dr. Gamal Mahmoud Hagar, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Sherif Mohie Eldin, Director of the Arts Center at BA; and Dr. Laila Abdel Moneim, Head of the Theater Department, Faculty of Arts. Participants include professors and intellectuals concerned with theatrical issues, among them are Dr. Mahmoud Abou Doma, Head of the Programs Unit, the artist, Kamal Eid, and the artist, Samir El Asfoury.
Over the course of two days, the conference will comprise a series of lectures and theater performances on three subjects, including The modernization of theater; Revolutionary trends in theater; and The social change and its effect on contemporary Egyptian theater.
The theater performances include Hakawi Iskandarani, performed by Meraya Group, written by the artists, Ahmad Fouad Negm and Bairam Al-Tonsi, as well as, a performance organized by the Center for the Blind at the Faculty of Arts entitled Mawakef Sakhena, written by Ayman Feteha and directed by Ahmed Ezzat.
