Alexandria — the BA Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT) and the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) will organize a training course entitled Documentation of Iraqi Monuments during the period from 1st to 6th April 2006. The course aims at promoting the use of technology in the documentation of cultural heritage in Iraq and exchanging experiences among specialists of heritage documentation.

Dr. Reem Bahgat, the person in charge of the training course, stated that the course will focus on several themes including training on the use of computers in digital documentation, reviewing different means of museums display, introducing different techniques of digital documentation. Dr. Bahgat added that the course seeks to rehabilitate museums’ staff and enable the participants to review recent technical and scientific developments in documenting museums’ monuments, in addition to assisting in the re-operation of Iraqi cultural heritage institutions.

Stemming from the awareness of the value of the Iraqi civilization and cultural heritage, and as a result of war on Iraq and the destruction of Iraqi historical sites and monuments, ISESCO took several measures to protect the Iraqi heritage, institutions, museums, libraries, and manuscripts centers as part of the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education grant to reconstruct cultural institutions in Iraq.
