The BA Manuscripts Museum Rare Books and Collections Section has received the special collection of the late archaeologist Dr. Abd el-Moniem Abd el-Halim Sayyed, Professor of Ancient History and Archaeology at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University. The late professor’s family has generously donated the collection to the BA.
The donated collection includes almost 1600 Arabic books and some of the professor’s own works, such as Ancient Egyptian Civilization: An Analytical Comparative Study, Fallacy and Fabrications about Ancient Egyptian History Repudiated and Refuted with Archeological Evidence, a large number of scientific theses which he supervised, several archeology and history periodicals where his articles were published, and many photo albums of excavation sites.
The late Dr. Abd el-Moniem Abd el-Halim Sayyed was a pioneer in the field of archeological studies in the Red Sea region. Later on, these studies aided the American and Italian archeological expeditions in discovering valuable artifacts. He had begun his excavation work in the 1970s and had discovered the site of Mersa Gawasis, left behind by the 12th Pharoanic Dynasty on the coast of the Red Sea. He also won an award for Scientific Merit given by the General Union of Arab Archaeologists.
