Dr. Samir Shoushan, Professor of Sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Alexandria University, has donated a rare collection of coins to the Library.
Theses coins date back to the Greco-Roman Era and consist of 12 coins, 3 of which are dated before the time of Alexander the Great, the era of his Father Philip Macedon. Three other coins date back to the Ptolemaic Period in Egypt, whereas three date back to the Roman period, two date back to the Byzantine Period and the last one dates back to the Islamic Era. This set of coins is considered to be important as it reveals the historic sequence of the evolution of coins.
The owner of this set has already won many prizes, the most important of which is the famous medal of the Opera House, known as the “Orchestra”. He also held many exhibitions for his works, of which it is worth to mention his exhibition at the American Cultural Center (1996) and at the Museum of Mahmoud Said (2002).
