Posted on

Alexandria— The BA organized a special youth meeting entitled “Youth Parliament” on Thursday, 31 January 2008, for youth to express their ideas on pressing issues like education, reading and environmental issues.

Dr. Sohair Wastawy, Head of the BA Library Sector, stated that the purpose of this parliament is to help officials and decision makers improve youth living conditions, share ideas and views, positively interact with youth, and adopt youth creative ideas. She added that the BA creates a channel for youth to express freely their concerns and ideas.

Sherine Said, Head of the BA Young People’s Library, stated that students from middle and senior schools were actively involved in the Parliament. The Parliament discussed the issue of reading and how to develop reading among youth. Students reached several recommendations during the meetings and workshops including "the class library " and "mobile libraries". Sherine added that the BA has taken into account these proposals, and is currently seeking to implement them.

The Youth Parliament will address, every time, different theme, chosen by youth themselves. The Parliament is held during the mid year vacation and weekly in the summer holiday.
