IPS Finalizes the Peace and Conflict Studies Master Program Curriculum Development Workshop at the BA

Alexandria— The Peace Studies Institute (IPS) affiliated to the Suzanne Mubarak Women's International Peace Movement hosted “Peace and Conflict Studies Master Program Curriculum Development Workshop” on 14-17 April 2008. The workshop included representatives of six universities from the Middle East to discuss the Masters Degree Program scheduled to start in September 2008.

Participating universities have committed to launching the resulting postgraduate program in collaboration with the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica in the academic year 2008–2009 and mandated the IPS to coordinate the program on the regional level while the University for Peace has agreed to endorsing certificates given by the IPS.

The statement cited the institute’s efforts in organizing the workshop and coordinating between the participating universities: the University of Alexandria, Egypt; the Hashemite University, Jordan; Dahuk University, Iraq; the University of Khartoum and Ahfad University for Women, Sudan; and Bethlehem University, Palestine.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Hassan Nadeer Khairallah, President of the University of Alexandria on behalf of Egyptian Minister for Higher Education Hany Hilal. Representatives of the six Arab universities participating in the workshop held at the BA to establish a postgraduate program in peace studies and conflict resolution have issued a statement of thanks and appreciation to HE Mrs. Suzan Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt and Chairperson of the Institute for Peace Studies (IPS).
