Peace and War in Ancient Egypt Discussed in a BA Lecture

Dr. Abdel Halim Nour El Din, Professor of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University, and BA Special Advisor, is delivering a lecture on Wednesday, 16 July 2008. The lecture, entitled “Peace and War in Ancient Egypt” comes within the first cultural season of archaeology that the BA holds this year. Through a number of public lectures, the season centers its focus on the history of Ancient Egypt, aiming at raising awareness on the country`s rich heritage and thus fulfilling the BA`s responsible role in preserving heritage and developing archaeological awareness.
Dealing with times of war and peace, the lecture sheds light on the long history of wars in Egypt, a country that has forever been a target for invaders, and also broaches a number of other subjects among which are deceptive stratagems and surprise techniques used by Ancient Egyptians as well as the peace treaties and armistice periods that took place during wartime.
The lecture begins at 11 a.m. at the BA Auditorium.
