A Lecture on Popular Egyptian Sayings held at the BA

The BA is holding on Sunday, 18 January 2009, a lecture entitled “Popular Egyptian Sayings” given by Dr. Ahmed Ali Morsi, Dean of Faculty of Arts, Beni Soueif University. The Lecture is organized within the new cultural season of the Egyptian Association for Friends of Bibliotheca Alexandrina (EAFBA) Scientific Committee.
Dr. Morsi is also President of the Egyptian Society for Folk Traditions, and the supervisor of the project for compiling, classifying and archiving the Egyptian intangible heritage of Al-Sirah Al-Hilaliyyah. He will talk about his experience in supervising the creation of the Atlas of Popular Egyptian Sayings (Folk Traditions) that is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the General Administration for Cultural Palaces. There is no doubt that knowing and being aware of the country’s national history is very crucial in establishing one’s identity, as well as planning his/her present and future life.
Hence, the Atlas of Popular Egyptian Sayings is an essential national and scientific tool in realizing the various cultural dimensions of the Egyptian society and analyzing them objectively. In addition, it will provides data on the development of popular mass culture; as well as its role and strong relationship with global heritage in general, and Arab heritage in particular.
