Alexandria— After announcing the recipients of the Research Grants Program for 2007/2008, the BA Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) announced the Call for Applications for the Research Grants Program for 2009.
Dr. Mohamed El-Faham, Director of the CSSP, stated that 7 Egyptian researchers were selected out of 243 young Egyptian applicants, all holding PhD degrees in agriculture, biology, biochemistry and biophysics, chemistry, engineering sciences, information technology, mathematics, medical sciences, physics, and astronomy. He added that a panel of 89 Egyptian and foreign scientists had first top listed 23 researchers out of the applications submitted.
Dr. El-Faham stressed the importance of establishing mutually beneficial relationships between Egyptian and international scientific organizations, and stated that the participation by young Egyptian researchers in international joint projects would eventually lead to creating a promising generation of scientists who would contribute greatly to the flourishing of their nation.
The CSSP offers a number of post-PhD research grants for young Egyptian scientists and researchers, under 35 years of age, who have already obtained their PhD degree in the previous 5 years, or are about to obtain it. Candidates should be employed by an academic or a research institute in Egypt, either in the public or private sector. Candidates should also be participants, or be able to participate, in a joint research project with a foreign research institute.
The Research Grants Program covers all areas of natural sciences, mathematics, and information technology. This year, pre-university education grants will be introduced, in which the scope of the program will be extended to include social sciences and humanities.
The Program was launched in 2004 and has so far awarded grants to 34 researchers .
