Film Screenings within the Celebrations of “Youssef Chahine’s Year”

Alexandria—On the Occasion of “Youssef Chahine’s Year”, the BA Arts Center is organizing screenings of several of Chahine’s feature films, from 26 to 30 April 2009.
Screening will start on Sunday, 26 April with Nessaa Bela Regal (Women Without Men), 1953. Monday, 27 April will feature Siraa fi El-Wadi (The Blazing Sun), 1954. On Tuesday, 28 April, Shaytan El-Sahara (The Desert Devil), 1954 will be shown. Wednesday, 29 April, will feature Siraa fi El-Mina (Dark Waters), 1955. Screenings will close by Bab El-Hadid (Cairo Station), 1957.
Youssef Chahine was born in Alexandria on 25 January 1926 and died on 27 July 2008. An Egyptian director with international acclaim, Chahine is famous for his controversial works, especially his quartet portraying his autobiography: Iskandariyyah Lih (Alexandria, Why?); Haddoutah Masriyyah (An Egyptian Story); Iskandariyyah Kaman we Kaman (Alexandria Again and Forever) and Iskandariyyah…New York (Alexandria…New York).
Film screenings will take place at the BA Auditorium at 7:00 pm.
