Launching The Big Read Website
Posted on
Alexandria—The BA Library Sector, together with the Information and Communication Technology Sector, has launched a special bilingual website about the Big Read Egypt/U.S. project.
The website presents the three American novels of the Big Read: To kill a Mockingbird, Fahrenheit 451, and Grapes of Wrath as well as The Thief and the Dogs, in both Arabic and English. The website also directs the Big Read participants towards further resources available in the BA, in addition to a number of online resources accessible for everybody. It also gives information about different contests and invites the readers to interact with each other in the discussion groups.
The Big Read Egypt/U.S. project is a collaborative Global Cultural Initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with Arts Midwest and the Institute of Museums and Library Services. It was a result of the National Endowment for the Arts Annual Report in 2004 that stated a great decline in the percentage of Americans reading for pleasure. The Initiative aimed at providing local organizations with a collection of books by eminent American writers and supporting them in holding a number of cultural events on a selected book.
