BA Publishes The Silk Road Encyclopedia

The BA, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, is celebrating the Chinese Year in Egypt on the occasion of the Chinese president’s visit by publishing an encyclopedia titled The Silk Road.

Written by Ashraf Abu-Zeid, the encyclopedia documents the most well-known travel roads around the world. The Silk Road is the name given to the trade convoys that travelled on land from China in the far east towards Europe.

The 220-page illustrated encyclopedia us divided in three sections, the first of which covers the 374 cities that the Silk Road intersected. The second section discusses the literature and arts that thrived along the Road. The last section is dedicated to the well-known kingdoms and luminaries throughout the 16 centuries.

This publication comes as part of the Silk Road project undertaken by the BA Special Projects Department. This is the second encyclopedia that has been released in the Samarqand series. Mamluk Carpets and will also be published as part of this project.
