Launch of International Museum Day 2016

Museums around the world celebrate annually The International Museum Day 18 May 2016.
This event highlights the role of museums in raising public awareness about the need for a society that is less wasteful and more cooperative. International Museum Day draws the attention of both the general public and museum professionals around the world. Moreover, it is an occasion to honor museum audiences and to offer a wide range of special activities.
Thus, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum is delighted to celebrate The International Museum Day (IMD) through which the workshop will be held on Sunday, 15 May 2016 and Monday, 16 May 2016; 10 am – 3 pm; age 8 – 15 years; and regarding Wednesday, 18 May 2016, entry to the museum will be free for public. Our Museum is organizing art activities across two days according to the historical periods as follows: Day 1 is Pharaonic, in which children will participate in making several activities, for instance stamping Hieroglyphic alphabet on papyrus paper, making pectorals, wigs, headdresses and beards, and making obelisks, as well as sistrums. The second day is Roman, in which participants will make mirrors, Trident bolts, and tiaras, as well will use ceramic clay and will form tablets using pieces of mosaic, also they will use color oxides to paint on water urns and plates and many other activities. This event emphasizes the essential role of the Museum as an important medium of cultural exchange through strategies for interactive learning.
In cooperation with the Antiquities Museum, the Archaeological Awareness Department of the Ministry of Antiquities in Alexandria will participate through a workshop focusing on archaeological digging techniques. As well, the Royal Jewelry Museum will participate through a workshop entitled “Jewelry of the Royal Family”, the first day will be a workshop using copper to produce crowns and jewelry of the Royal Family, while the second day will be a workshop using paper to produce the Royal Family properties.
