An Egyptian Wins an International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment

Alexandria—Ramy Gamal, member of the BA Children’s Library, won the 18th International Children's Painting Competition on the Environment, and ranked first in Africa. The Competition is organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the Japan-based Foundation for Global Peace and Environment (FGPE), Bayer, and Nikon Corporations.
Gamal will participate in the Children’s Conference organized in Korea from 17 to 19 August 2009, and will receive his award in a ceremony held on 20 August 2009.
The Children’s Library has announced the competition late last year. It has since then organized workshops around its theme, climate change, providing children with the necessary information, developing their artistic skills, and supervising their works until they were sent to the UNEP office.
It is worth mentioning that the BA Children’s Library is organizing a summer program including a variety of activities for children from 6 to 11 years. It gives them the opportunity to participate in storytelling, reading competitions and artistic workshops, in addition to computer and Heliographic courses, and lots of other interesting events in Arabic, English and French.
