The BA Participates in the IFLA Conference

Alexandria— The BA Libraries Sector participated in the 75th Conference of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) that was held in Milan, Italy, from 23 to 27 August 2009, under the title “Libraries Create Futures: Building on Cultural Heritage”.
As a representative of the IFLA Center for Arabic Speaking Libraries (IFLA-CASL), the BA has greatly contributed to the Conference this year. BA staff members worked as simultaneous translators and in the editing of the Conference’s newsletter IFLA Express.
Dr. Sohair Wastawy, Head of the BA Libraries Sector, was the keynote speaker at IFLA Satellite meeting “Libraries and Society: A Pan-Mediterranean Perspective”, which was held in Palermo on the theme “Freedom of Information”. Dina Youssef, Deputy Director of IFLA-CASL held a presentation at the Newcomers Session held on Sunday, 23 on “IFLA Express- an Indispensible Guide throughout the Conference”.
IFLA is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession, as it currently has 1600 members in approximately 150 countries around the world. This year it celebrates the 75 anniversary of the IFLA conferences, first held in Rome in 1928.
