Dr. Ismail Serageldin Participates in Davos

“Cultural
history is the touchstone of memory and wellspring of our imagination” said
Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina as he opened a
session entitled: ‘Protecting Cultural Heritage from Collateral Damage’ at
the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He suggested that grants should
be available to help protect things of cultural value, just as there are
foundations that protect endangered animals and rainforests.
Dr. Serageldin also contributed to an independent report prepared by over 40
experts from around the world about the failure of governments, international
organizations, businesses and civil society to provide the necessary effort to
realize the UN millennium declaration goals.
The World Economic Forum took place in
Davos, Switzerland from the 21st- 25th of January 2004.
The Forum is an international organization that aims to improve the state of the
world through addressing global issues and engaging its corporate members in
global citizenship.
