The BA Unveils the Sculpture “La famille” by the Canadian Artist Roger Langevin

Alexandria— The BA held on Thursday, 8 October 2009, a ceremony on the occasion of the donation made by the Canadian Artist Roger Langevin to one of his sculptures “La Famille”. The donation will be added to the BA acquisitions, which includes permanent exhibitions and art galleries.

The ceremony started at 12:00 noon, at the Main Library entrance, and was attended by H.E. Ambassador Aly Maher, Advisor to the BA Director, who attended on behalf of Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria; H.E. Ambassador Ferry de Kerckhove, the Canadian Ambassador to Egypt; Artist Roger Langevin; and several dignitaries from the Canadian community in Egypt along with a group of BA managers and employees.

H.E. Ambassador Aly Maher gave a speech on this occasion, in which he said “In the context of the excellent multidisciplinary relations between Canada and Egypt, this ceremony, this gift highlights the importance of our cultural exchanges…our valued relationship is beneficial and mutually rewarding to both Egyptians and Canadians”. He also addressed warm thanks and gratitude to Roger Langevin who has offered this magnificent work of art, as a symbol of friendship and as a support to the BA, for its mission and to its endeavors in serving the region and the entire world.

The Canadian Ambassador Mr. Ferry de Kerckhove pointed out to the strong Canadian Egyptian relations, and stressed the role of art in promoting dialogue and understanding between the peoples of the world. He concluded that the Sculpture “La famille” is a distinctive piece of art, and a generous donation from a renowned and respected artist.
