Alexandria—The Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), affiliated to the BA, is organizing the workshop “Authentication of Artefacts and their Protection against Forgery and Illicit Trade” on 4 and 5 November 2009.
Held within the AUTHENTICO Project, the Workshop focuses on issues related to authentication and control of illicit trade and non-destructive analysis of artefacts in general. It also presents the outcome of the AUTHENTICO, funded by the European Commission, providing an opportunity to exchange the latest research and case studies in the field.
AUTHENTICO officially started in June 2007, for a total duration of 30 months. Ten partners took part in the project, representing 8 countries: Belgium, Czech Republic, Egypt (CULTNAT), France, Italy, Poland, Tajikistan and the United Kingdom.
The Workshop will conclude the proceedings of the AUTHENTICO Project, and will be attended by members of EU delegation and personalities from the Ministry of Culture, and the BA.
AUTHENTICO proposes a multidisciplinary research to face the problem of forgery of original works of art and fraudulent dealing of counterfeits, and provides a cost-effective science, technology and culture-based strategy for the authentication of movable cultural patrimony particularly metal artefacts (precious and non-precious).
