Egypt’s First Lady Honors Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali at the BA

Alexandria—H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, Chair of the BA Board of Trustees, visited the BA on Monday, 14 December 2009, to attend a ceremony honoring Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, Former UN Secretary General, in recognition of his generous donation to the Library. Dr. Ghali’s valuable donation included an original copy of Description de l’Egypte, in addition to his personal archive of photos, documents and other material related to his term of office as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and UN Secretary General. The BA is currently working on compiling all these material in a digital archive.
The Ceremony started with a speech by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, followed by a documentary on Dr. Ghali’s donation, after which Dr. Ghali gave a short address expressing his gratitude for the honoring.
Following the ceremony, Mrs. Mubarak went on a tour of the new expansions and exhibitions at the BA. She also chaired the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Peace Studies (IPS), which is affiliated to the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement (SMWIPM) and hosted at the BA.
