The Arab Network for Women in Science and Technology Relocates at the BA

Alexandria—The BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC) holds a celebration on Wednesday, 3 February 2010, on the occasion of the relocation of the Secretariat Office of the Arab Network for Women in Science and Technology (ANWST) from its base at the Gulf University in Bahrain to the BA.

The event starts with short speeches by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria; Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Executive Director of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS); Dr. Rafia Ghubash, President of ANWST, and Dr. Tarek Shawky, Director of UNESCO Cairo Office. Representatives of the four partners will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding, followed by a press conference.

A roundtable discussion will also take place with eminent scientists and scholars including Professor Hind Hanafy, President of Alexandria University; Dr. Rashika El Ridi, Professor at Cairo University and recipient of the L’Oreal 2010 Women in Science Award; and Dr. Mona Bakr, Assistant Professor at the National Institute of Laser Enhanced Science, Cairo University and student of Dr. Mostafa Elsayed.

The Arab Network for Women in Science and Technology aims to strengthen the collaboration and improve communication through networking among women scientists in the Arab region, and their peers around the world to encourage them to pursue their careers in science and technology.
