The BA hosts the launch of the “Global Innovation through Science and Technology” (GIST) Initiative on 14 and 15 December 2010, attended by a number of eminent personalities, and representatives from government, non-profit organizations, academia, and industry.

GIST was launched by the US Civilian Research Development Foundation (CRDF) Global, building upon its vision of “peace and prosperity through scientific collaboration”. Critical to this vision is the fostering of invention, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the commercialization of technology in the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia regions.

Participants seek to develop concrete strategies to advance technology commercialization in key areas such as agriculture, health, information technology, and energy.

This event is one of the primary science and technology initiatives proposed by U.S. President Barack Obama in Cairo in June 2009.
