The BA Contributes in the Establishment of the International Association for Printing Museums in South Korea

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina has contributed in the inauguration of the International Association for Printing Museums held in Cheongju, South Korea, with the participation of 41 museums and research institutions concerned with the history and heritage of printing. It also included 80 specialists and researchers in the field of history and heritage of printing, from 19 countries around the world.
The BA has played an important role over the years to document the history and heritage of printing in Egypt and the Arab World. It was manifested in “The Fourth Annual Seminar for the History of Printing in the Middle East” that was organized by the BA Writing and Scripts Center in 2011. Additionally, the BA established the “Bulaq Press Exhibition,” which was the first permanent exhibition for the history of printing. This exhibition documented the first governmental press in Egypt that was established by Muhammad Ali in 1822. It has also published a book entitled The Memory of Printing and Publishing in the Middle East.
The International Association for Printing Museums aims to disseminate and support the culture of printmaking through documenting the history of printing in the world, as well as its techniques and development.
