The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Antiquities Museum, affiliated to the Cultural Outreach Sector, organizes a lecture entitled “Nefertiti: Queen and Pharaoh of Egypt” on Monday, 13 January 2020, 1:00 pm, at the Biblioltheca Alexandrina Conference Center, Meeting Room (C). Professor Aidan Dodson, University of Bristol, UK, will deliver the lecture.

The speaker will shed light on Nefertiti, wife of the “heretic king”, Akhenaten, being one of the most recognized figures of ancient Egyptian history. However, hard facts about her are scarce, with almost every aspect of her life is subject of continuous debate. Nevertheless, ongoing research indicates that she was a woman of exceptional prominence. She was the goddess of the dead, and during the last years of her life a pharaoh, probably ruling for the young Tutankhamun, whose mother she may have been.

The lecturer will explore what we know about her, some of the myths that have grown up around her career, and how she has become perhaps one of the most iconic women in history.
