The BA Center for Islamic Civilization Studies published a book in two volumes on the “Islamic Civilization in Al-Andalus”, which sheds light on the development phases of the unique Andalusian experience that lasted for eight centuries, characterized by the epistemological contribution to the human civilization.
The two volumes comprise studies on the origins of historiography and its development in Al-Andalus, as well as the Andalusian creativity in science, arts, literature, and Islamic architecture, together with the socio-economic life in this region.
The studies presented in the two volumes are the product of an international conference that was held in the Bibliotheca Alexandria several years ago, in honor of Dr. Ahmed Mukhtar Al-Abbadi, a pioneer in the field of Moroccan and Andalusian historical and civilizational studies. The first volume includes subjects related to history, language, and literature, while the second volume presents research papers pertaining to architecture, arts, and science, which will be published soon.
In a foreword for the book, Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, stressed the Library’s interest in the concept of the dialogue between civilizations and cultures. He also emphasized the idea of the universality of Islam and its tolerance that represents an important aspect of human civilization.
