In light of the leading role played by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on the regional and international levels to provide technical support for libraries and information institutions in the Arab world, the BA Library Sector launched the first edition of the Arabic translation of the first, second, and third volumes of the Dewey Decimal Classification.

Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, highlighted the importance of this edition, since it is the first complete, organizational Arabic version of the Dewey Decimal Classification (23rd edition and its updates until March 2019). He also pointed out that it is the first Arabic edition to be consistent with its English equivalent of the Dewey Classification, with its classified, chronological divisions, in addition to several other features distinguishing this edition.

It is worth mentioning that this initiative was implemented in partnership with OCLC and PANSOFT (the German developer of the translation support software used by several Dewey translations). The Arabic translation of the first, second, and third volumes will be available at the Cairo International Book Fair 2021.
