The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a conference on the development of Upper Egypt on Monday, 5 April 2021 in Cairo.

Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, said that he is concerned about the development of Upper Egypt, and that he considers this region a major source for Egypt’s historical value and position. He added that Upper Egypt is the birthplace of numerous distinguished figures such as Abbas Mahmoud Al-Aqqad, Taha Hussein, Mustafa Lutfi El-Manfaluti, Mustafa El-Maraghi, Gamal Abdel Nasser, in addition to the families of Ghali, Abdel Nour, and Obeid.

Elfeki pointed out that the BA is holding this conference, which will be inaugurated by General Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Local Development, and Dr. Nevine El-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, with the participation of a host of public figures, members of parliament, intellectuals, academics, media professionals, and representatives of civil society associations. The conference will discuss the development projects implemented in Upper Egypt by governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as the means of promoting investment in this particular region.

It is worth noting that the BA has launched a new initiative to highlight the role of development efforts in changing the Egyptian society – a topic tackled during “Egypt Is Changing” conference that took place at the beginning of March 2021 in Alexandria.

The Library continues to hold a series of lectures that examine the social and economic aspects of the Egyptian society.
