On the occasion of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s inauguration of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, and the procession of transporting 22 ancient royal mummies across the city to their new resting place at the museum, the Bibliotheca Alexandria released its latest publication entitled Pharaonic Warriors… Diplomats and Militants. With a foreword by Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, the book is written by Dr. Hussein Abdel Bassir, Director of the BA Antiquities Museum, and Supervisor of the BA Zahi Hawass Center of Egyptology.
Pharaonic Warriors… Diplomats and Militants chronicles the history and trajectory of the kings and queens of the New Kingdom of Egypt, whose mummies were relocated from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat. The book is the first in a series of publications issued by the BA in celebration of the opening of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, as well as the forthcoming inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.
In his foreword, Dr. Elfeki noted that this book comes as part of the series “Know Your Civilization”, which aims at introducing the new generation – particularly children and young people – to the glorious history and civilization of their homeland.
Dr. Abdel Bassir, in his introduction to the book, said: “The Egyptian King was the head of the ancient Egyptian state. He was the source of all powers, especially the religious and secular powers, so that he could best perform the sacred royal duties placed upon him.” He added, “The great Egyptian army has always been the safety valve of the Egyptian nation, and a protective shield from internal and external dangers… The ancient Egyptian always resorted to peace rather than war.”
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Hussein Abdel Bassir is an Egyptian archaeologist, writer, and novelist. He earned his MA and PhD from Johns Hopkins University in the US, and penned numerous books, novels, and scholarly articles. He held several prestigious positions in Egypt and abroad.
